Fake tan..

Most people say it looks ugly and orange

well some of it does, but there are some that look nice and natural.. just make sure you dont over-do it.. =)

Build your tan in a salon. When you tan outside you have no way of controlling the amount of UVB (burning rays) that you are getting. In a salon, ask for their booth that has the lowest UVB's, it should be around 2%, otherwise find a different salon. Start with a very low time and use a good tanning lotion. Ask the tanning consultant at your salon for suggestions, it's their job. Then once you've built a base, you will be less likely to burn from the natural sunlight.
Reply:You are better off going with a spray tan.

Redheads and fair skinned people have a higher risk of skin cancer.

You can try to build a tan at a tanning booth, but you will still be at risk of burning once you start tanning out doors.
Reply:First of all, use sunscreen. Then, start off staying in the sun for no more than 10 minutes on each side. The next day increase it by 5 minutes, then another 5 every day. I did that one summer and got a beautiful tan and no burn. If you know from experience that 10 minutes is too long, decrease the time, and gradually add a few minutes at a time. You can also do it before 10am or after 4pm, just to be safe if the midday sun if too strong.
Reply:If you're naturally very pale, fake tan tends to make you go orange. The chemicals in them react with skin cells to change their colour, and if you have little pigment to start with, the results can be quite unnatural.

As a very pale person who is incredibly paranoid about catching sun, I would advise wearing a good sunscreen to stop you going bright red if you're out in the sun, as everyone will react differently, and learn to love your natural colour. There's no reason why you can't look fabulous AND be fair!
Reply:I know this is probably not what you want to hear, but if you have fair skin DON'T TAN! I would get bronzer or self tanner and appreciate having fair skin.
Reply:I am very fair complected and I burn every time I go outside. I recommend rubbing down with sun screen. When i use it I tan and don't burn but be careful not to miss any spots because I did the other day and I looked crazy with red streaks! :)
Reply:You can tan in the booth or put on lotions in the sun.

You are going to be at a high rate of skin cancer eather way.
Reply:Use a fake tanner. Try out a couple types on hidden areas to see what looks least orange on you and use that. Or try one of those moisturizers (like jergens natural glow) that build up a tan slowly over time, that would prevent some of the orangeness.

You can't make your body do what it wasn't designed to do. You may eventually get a somewhat decent looking tan but with your coloring you'll probably also get skin cancer. Its not worth it. Wear sunscreen and stay out of the sun.
