How to get into the Tattoo and Piercing business?

I have been through all my ideas of every aspect I would like to take part in in my life. I have always been fascinated with tattoos and piercings. How would I go about being a tattoo artist/piercer? (What would you call one who pierces? =P)

Does it include college? Classes? What must I do?

People who pierce are called piercers, you are correct.

First off, you need to decide whether you want to do piercing or tattooing, as they are two completely different lines of work.

If you choose to do tattoos, you need to be good at art. This is a MUST. If you%26#039;re not good at art, then I%26#039;d go the piercing route. You%26#039;ll need to build a portfolio of artwork to rbing with you when you go to look for an apprenticeship. Tattooing and piercing are trades, and you ust therefore apprentice to learn the trade before actually doing it. Whatever you do, DO NOT buy into the whole piercing/tattoo school thing that you may see online. You don%26#039;t go to school for tattooing or piercing. You just don%26#039;t. Many of these schools will overcharge you and underteach you. You need hands-on experience, not book work.

I%26#039;ll link two sites in my sources so I don%26#039;t get too lengthy with my answer. Those sites will tell you all you need to know to get started looking for an apprenticeship.

Good luck, and you made a great choice in getting into the industry!
Reply:no idea
Reply:You will definitely need to get an apprenticeship. It is really the only way to become respected by your peers in the tattoo industry. Look online for artist offering tattoo apprenticeships. It is the best way to learn. I hope this helps. Good Luck !
Reply:You%26#039;ll need to get into the scene. By that I mean the music, the visual art, all of it.

Because it%26#039;s a 24/7 lifestyle.

Once there you%26#039;ll find out pretty quickly what you need to do if it%26#039;s for you.
